About the Artist
Monique Morin Matson is a self-taught scratchboard and miniature artist living on a farmette in the Pacific Northwest
She loves creating and exploring different mediums drawing inspiration from the diversity of nature and wildlife.
Monique started Safyre Studios in 2010. She first started in acrylics, then dabbled in watercolors and colored pencils. In January 2014 feeling uninspired with the mediums she was working with, her son introduced her to scratchboard. Without any supplies she fashioned some tools from needles and wine corks and her new medium was found.
Today, Monique's scratchboard and miniature artwork is collected internationally.
Monique's first scratchboard (2014)
done with a sewing needle and wine bottle cork.
